Temps still pretty cold in the mornings -18 and they warm up to about -10 in afternoon. Little bit of new snow up top on top of the rest daily. Mad Dog on his snowbike and photos of Limestone and entrance to Barnes, Cooper boon docking on the Arctic Cat and climbing with his Dad's 800 XP. Conditions are fantastic!
Flathead getting groomed often so please buy passes and/or contribute to the grooming fund in the box at the Corbin Staging area. There is also now a groomer that can be towed up and down the Barnes trail. Please support all the volunteer efforts that have been made to make everyone's riding experience that much more enjoyable.

Snow Report: Dec 26/09

Merry Christmas! Mad Dog's crew (Braedon, Vickie, Jay & Steve) was out in Limestone, Jerome Bowl and Rain Gauge and said it is all boon docking with about 1.5 ft of fresh snow ontop of the base. They didn't run into any rocks or stumps - just each other! They were in Elliott and it is deep and all the snow has come down with no cornices left. Barnes is deep and a boon docker's dream. Good News for sure! It is a bit cold today -18 but it is on a warming trend. Happy Sleddin!

Snow Report: Dec 16/09

Got an inch yesterday and then another 4" last night on top of that down here at the Inn. Temp is -2 this morning - drastic change from -25 48hrs ago! There will be knee deep snow on the trails and likely similar snow in the alpine as shown in Harvey's photos of Cranbrook area that I included in this blog. Too busy with kids Christmas concerts and now blowing a bit of snow to get out back but it is warm enough now to say it would be worth riding. Expecting snow all week still. Watch for black ice on hwy 22.
We are booked over Christmas and New Years and until the 7th of Jan. Just a reminder that we book up about 3 months in advance for that time slot. Special rate still on til Sunday and the log and new cabin are available til then. Cheers!

Snow Report: Dec10/09

Poppa Boone, Granny and Matty out on Christmas Tree search. Trail riding today and snow was 6-8 inches on the trail - didn't go up into the alpine but heard 4ft off the pipeline right now. Reports of 4-5 ft in trees to the Notch. Still really break in mode early season riding here. Warming up - currently -10 at 9:30pm tonight from -25 yesterday!
We aren't hosting an avalanche clinic at our resort but there are some Field Classes planned for the Fernie and Crowsnest areas beginning and end of Jan respectively.

Snow Report: Dec 4/09

Well the "southern AB" storm isn't hitting us very hard. Started in with fury but died out. I was in Crowsnest and Fernie today and the roads were pretty good - very normal and visibility started looking bad at around 11am but then improved by 12:30. We haven't gotten really much snow out of it. Up top maybe an a few more inches. Heard Calgary, Airdrie and Lethbridge were harder hit. Maybe we'll get some more tomorrow - hasn't stopped yet so that is promising and isn't blowing it away either.

Fernie Ski Hill opens full time tomorrow and the snow up top is amazing for this early I am told - similar stories with sledding out back in various areas up top and in the trees. Fernie ski hill is saying this is the best snow this early in the season that they have had since 1986.

Will update tomorrow. Curt home on Monday so we'll have photos on Tuesday/Wed - CURT and CLAYTON turn 40! on the 8th and 12th respectively! Cheers.

Snow Report: Dec 2/09

Curt and Coop put on 30 miles on Sat. They said the trail was rutted up a bit from hunters until the second creek to Corbin where it became knee deep snow (Cooper made sure he jumped out in front for the fresh tracks!)

We got another 3 inches of fresh snow Monday night and it is snowing lightly this morning.

Remember you have a limited amount of time to take advantage of the shoulder season special flat rate on cabins (log and new $125 and doublewide $100)valid for dates up and until the 20th of Dec. Cheers!

Snow Report: Blogger Special Rate

Hey Gang,
I think the snow is pretty good but its still a long way to drive for trails and the possibility of rippin up between the trees and bowls for most of our guests in northern AB, SK & MB. So....we are offering a special deal from Nov 28th to Dec 20th - Log and New cabin will be $125 per night flat rate and doublewide will be $100 per night flat rate (that is no charge for additional guests). The only stipulation is that it remains a 2 night minimum. I am only advertising this on our blog so you either have to call for info or read it on our blog to know about it. Happy Shoulder Season!

Snow Report: Nov 27/09

Yahoo! It was snowing at 6:30 this morning and it is still snowing and steady. It is a wet snow and has added about 3-4 inches down here at the Inn, snow ploughs are out on the highway. It is supposed to snow 15cm to day and 15cm tomorrow.

Tim from "Over The Top Rentals" was down the Flathead playing in and around McClatchie and said it was great early season riding. Better yet...nobody else around - had it to himself. I would not hesitate to say to drive 3hrs to ride here - again - early season riding. Beware standing your sled up cause when it comes down the base is not going to protect you from that stump or rock - Trent at Walt Healy in Calgary can attest to that after having a bunch of sleds back from Revy in for repairs from encounters such as that. Get your snow legs, get your tuning down and then when the big pow hits you'll be first tracks!

Snow Report: Nov 26/09

7am and the snow is crusty on top as the temp is +6 right now. Still have not lost a whole lot of snow down at the Inn and there are unconfirmed reports of 7ft of snow in places in the trees off the pipeline but this warm temp will have set that snow up. Still lots of good riding for this early in the season and likely better snow conditions as you go up in altitude. More Snow predicted this Sat. Curt home today and will have his sled ready to go and have pics from out back soon.

With this 7 degree increase be aware when riding in the alpine. Cheers!

Snow Report: Nov 20/09

It snowed all day yesterday and we ended up with 4" of snow down here at the Inn. More fell up top.
Here are photos of Rain Gauge (9km down the Flathead from Corbin Staging area) - taken last week I believe. Not bad eh?

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Snowing more here and at Corbin than at Fernie and not snowing in the Pass. First shot is of Corbin staging where two sledders had already gone out. Second is where "A" road or "McCool Trail from our place comes out at Corbin Hwy (1km west of Corbin Staging area)
Third photo is of "B" road or "Tent Mtn Pass" where it comes out at Corbin Hwy. There are 7km between "A" road and "B" road access off Corbin Hwy.
Fourth photo is of "Leach" road or "The Tin Shack" where it comes out at Corbin Hwy. It is 2km from "B" road access.
Talked to Mike at Ghostrider Motorsports and he road trail at Elkford and said it was good. Talk is 6ft snow at Revy. If you are just breakin in an engine this area is close and good.

Snow Report: Nov 19/09

Started snowing this morning around 8am and it is getting a bit heavier by the hour. It is twice as heavy as this photo now at 10am. Guys have been up in Rain Gauge and say it is great for early riding.

Log Cabin and New Cabin are $175/night based on double occupancy and $15 per additional person and the Doublewide Trailer is $130/night based on double occupancy and $10 per additional person if you want to come out and take a look. Remember though - this is early season riding - no pow yet. Cheers!

Snow Report: Nov 18/09

Yesterday it was +5 and windy and raining/snowing a bit at lower altitudes but it was snowing at the Inn on and off all day and we didn't lose any of our snow. It firmed up a bit.

Today it is +1 and was lightly snowing this morning. A dusting of snow. Trails are looking good.

We are booked for Christmas and New Years and have bookings scattered throughout Jan.

The Crow Snow Riders are looking for volunteers for the ASA Jamboree this year Feb 27 & 28th. If you are interested in a position just let me know and I will get you signed up. Cheers!

Avalanche Training Info

Hi Gang,
Wanted to tell you about some Avalanche Training Opportunities.

To get a full AST 1 Certification you need to attend a Classroom session & a Field Session.

Amber Wood is hosting a classroom session in Fernie Nov 26 & 27th from 6-9 and 6-10 and one in Cranbrook all day Sat Nov 28th

Lori with www.zacstracs.com is hosting a classroom session in Regina Sat Nov 28th 9am-6pm.

Field Sessions: Amber is hosting a field session in the Crowsnest Pass Jan 23rd & 24th
Lori is hosting three field sessions in Fernie Jan 3,4 & 10th.

These are just a few but they are likely the closest to us. It is going to be a fantastic season and the only thing that would make it better is if we all live to "GO BIG AND GO HOME" which is the theme for this year from presentations being made at the Calgary and Edmonton show.

Beacons can be rented just about anywhere for $15 a day on average. Plan ahead. Cheers - V

Snow Report: Nov 11/09

It has been snowing lightly but steadily since 8:30 this morning. Traffic on the highway is very slow. Nov 11th, 2006 we received 3ft of snow for reference of what type of snow year we are all anticipating. Trail riding would be alright if you had to break in a new engine. Keep doin' the snow dance gang!

Snow Report: Nov 10/09

Camera giving me grief. Snow looks the same as two days ago. I had to blow snow yesterday and the kids were out on the sled all day - they went to weigh scales and to Tent and said the trail was in great condition. We are at -3 and suppposed to stay at -1 most of the week with on and off flurries.

Snow Report: Nov 7/09

Woke up to this snow this morning and it has been snowing all day and still a bit tonight (6-8inches & fluffy). Cooper had his fan cooled sled out on the trail out back and on the track infront and had a blast. Still ...hold off...all it would take is a couple of 2 inch paddled tracks to go up and back on the trail and I am sure they would be stirring up rocks. Don't drive a long way to ride even though there is snow up top that is staying between these bouts. It would be just enough snow to hide a big rock or log to tear up your a-arm, track or pipe. It is supposed to warm up a bit again. Its good "practice snowing" for the season though!

Our Jan is starting to book up so if you are considering that month then give us a call to check date availability. Cheers!

Snow Report: Nov 2/09

Hey gang - we took off for a few days (thank you Danielle for being our "inn sitter") and our snow at the Inn is pretty well gone. Cooper had headed out to Tent Mtn base on Wed on his sled and there was about 2ft of snow in places but it was a bit on the rotten side.

It is practicing hard but hold off and save your parts for when the real snow comes to stay.

Sask Sled show is this coming weekend - go ramp up with equipment for the season! Cheers.

Snow Report: Oct 19/09

Over the weekend we had warmer temperatures and a downpour that melted all our snow at our elevation at the Inn. It is +3 this morning and is supposed to climb to +8 by Wed and then down to +3 by Sunday. Sorry my camera port on the computer is not working or I'd send you the dry frosty photo sans snow of the yard. Cheers!

Snow Report: Oct 19/09

Snow Report: Oct 13/09

Went from -8 to current -4 this morning. Snowed lightly here but was snowing thicker in the Pass. Still snowing up top and gusty from the warming trend.

The rock n roll/sled stunts combo show in Medicine Hat had to be reformated because Cody Bouchers was testing the ramps and HIT THE ROOF! Cody is bruised up, fell basicially 39ft and totalled his sled. A & E Racing in Brooks sponsers Cody. Curt and Cooper are headed to Cranbrook for the show there this Sat. We send out "get better soon's" to Cody. Oh and HI DARCY! Curt said you were watching the posts already! LOL - its not enough yet here but they were riding in Cranbrook! Cheers.

Snow Report Oct 10/09

They are riding in Cranbrook and the note stated: " and no damage" LOL. Not enough here yet - local okay but to drive here for it would be crazy just yet. Sorry about the photo but you get the just of it. Cold (-7) but the weather is supposed to warm up steadily going into the week. No new snow since my last blog. Kids have been out towing each other around on the toboggan with the quad. Happy Thanksgiving!

Snow Report: Oct 8/2009

Well we haven't lost our snow. It is snowing and +1 above right now. Rolled in at 5pm after a beautiful day. Be careful on the roads in the evening - during the day they were dry as a bone. Trend is to snow tonight and then start warming up steadily to +6 by Monday thru to Wed. The hunters are out with quads - one just drove through - should be good for hunting as it was so warm earlier. Dress for all weather if you are going out. Nice hot tub and bonfire weather!
Start planning your sled trips and safety courses - the snowmobile shows are coming soon. Cheers

SNOW REPORT! Oct 7/09

YEP! Snow - and still snowing! Don't know if it will last - my horses' water trough wasn't even slushed over but it is still snowing! For those of you driving this area - snow plough trucks are out. I think it will be a great sled season this year - positive thoughts, positive thoughts. Cheers

Quad visitors Aug 2/09

Group of locals cruised in to say hello and pick up a couple of Flash Pans for their backcountry dining ease. Lil and Francis Boone were discussing trails and I was pleased to advise them that they were both right in a way. Problem solver! Thanks for the visit.

We continue to get intermitent rain which is great for keeping the dust down on the trails. We have bookings open in Sept but it is filling up with reservations in October already.

To prepare for your vacation don't hesitate to look at the trails and descriptions on http://www.quadsquad.ca/ and consider supporting them with the very affordable membership.

Cheers!

Camp City! July 5/09

The Camping Crew rolled in on Sat and they have this down to a science! The kids are tearing up our little test track and the adults are planning for a week of trail riding. Good crew and lots of motorized action!
Congrats to the Graffunder boys riding really well in the Canadian Enduro Motorcross Championships @ Racehorse Creek - we've enjoyed having them with us!
The Chabot crew crammed in a lot of scenery in a day of riding and are coming back for more in August.
Still snow at the end of Trail of 7 Bridges. There is likely still snow on some of the passes to the north also but the rest of the trails are in good shape. Cheers!

Fishing & Quad Report: Jun 14 & 15/09

Curt and I on the Trail of 7 bridges. Water was down a lot from the few weeks before. Sommer at her first gymkhana in the shadow of Frank Slide, Cooper, Kale and Kale's Dad Jim fishing at Summit Lake - our trophy trout lake 2 min walk from our place. Cooper is learning to fly fish and caught one last night. Look at the bottom shot of the flying trout! Well worth the BC licence gang! Cooper and his Uncle Clayton on his new KTM from A&E Racing in Brooks. They put some miles on!
We just got a couple of good rainfalls which is crucial. Trails are in great shape and the Boys from Biggar, SK just put on over 150km of atving on per day on their first trip out for 2009! Hardcore. Cheers!

SNOW Report: June 6/09

YEP SNOW! 3 inches of new snow overnight and it was snowing fairly hard this morning at 7am. It has now all melted and it is raining. This is good as we were getting very dry. Dusty trails be gone.

Here are a few photos from Clayton, Curt and Curt's Dad Boone out on the trail of 7 bridges 10 days ago. We have had hot hot days since and the trails are in great shape. The bear print is measured against Curt's gauntlet glove. Check out our FLASH PAN for cooking on the trail.

Clayton just brought home his new KTM 300 XCW and is itchin' for some guys to come out to ride with - any takers?
July 4th & 5th the 2009 Canadian Enduro Motocross Championships are planned for Blairmore! They'll be riding north of the golf course. We have availability.

Fish are biting too so bring your rod and get a BC licence for Summit Lake or fish the rivers in AB. Cheers.
